1. The paperwork tax

This article forms part of the PWFO Swiss Certified Newsletter Series under Empowered Finance Professional, examining systemic weaknesses that place MSMEs, solopreneurs, and growing businesses at a structural disadvantage.

1. Overwhelmed by paperwork in the shop!

Small businesses often pay a “paperwork tax”:

  • time spent on forms,
  • filings, and
  • reports

instead of serving customers.

Do you feel admin work is eating your week?

What to do?

  1. Systemise once, reuse forever
  2. Create standard templates for invoices, engagement letters, checklists, and reports.
  3. Digitise properly
  4. Use one central platform for CRM, billing, document storage, and compliance tracking. Avoid scattered spreadsheets.
  5. Delegate low-value admin
  6. Bookkeeping, document filing, data entry should not consume founder time.
  7. Create a weekly control slot
  8. Block two hours per week for compliance and filings. Do not let it spill into productive hours.
  9. Think like a controller, not a firefighter
  10. Prevention is cheaper than correction.

Administration is necessary. But it must be structured. Otherwise, paperwork becomes profit leakage.

Here is to you saving time!!!!
