1. The paperwork tax
This article forms part of the PWFO Swiss Certified Newsletter Series under Empowered Finance Professional, examining systemic weaknesses that place MSMEs, solopreneurs, and growing businesses at a structural disadvantage.
1. Overwhelmed by paperwork in the shop!
Small businesses often pay a “paperwork tax”:
- time spent on forms,
- filings, and
- reports
instead of serving customers.
Do you feel admin work is eating your week?
What to do?
- Systemise once, reuse forever
- Create standard templates for invoices, engagement letters, checklists, and reports.
- Digitise properly
- Use one central platform for CRM, billing, document storage, and compliance tracking. Avoid scattered spreadsheets.
- Delegate low-value admin
- Bookkeeping, document filing, data entry should not consume founder time.
- Create a weekly control slot
- Block two hours per week for compliance and filings. Do not let it spill into productive hours.
- Think like a controller, not a firefighter
- Prevention is cheaper than correction.
Administration is necessary. But it must be structured. Otherwise, paperwork becomes profit leakage.
Here is to you saving time!!!!
